Introduction to Photography
Final 5

Chuah Tien Ling nickname is Chloe. (Born April 1995, Malaysia) studying Foundation in Design at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. I am interested in photography in earlier which only I was a person who has none of a little knowledge on the features of a camera. I have taken the elective course with Introduction to Photography for my interest and wish I do and capture something out not like a normal person we can did. Well now, I'm in the progress of exploring the wonders of the camera while capturing some picture based on haunted.

About the Photograph:

I was randomly choose nature, disturb, and portrait at first. I thought that I can only do something simple and normal. Yet who know. At the end, I was seriously falling with haunted. I started off with nature at first which I took the photo around my house, locate at SS15. So when I decide to go with haunted, I started it at my rent house. Basically, I like something scary and bloody which mean haunted. So, at first, I was really shoot a bad skill picture based on I have no a little knowledge with it. Yet, I started a good photo shoot which after I get advised by my lecture. He told me that I should have do some research and plan before I shoot. If not I might end up with blind shooting. Nevertheless, I do found that it is kind of hard to manage my time for shooting because I do need to cooperate with my friend and I only shoot in day time. I need the nature sunlight which got to bring up my exposure and feeling of haunted.

However, I found that for shoot a picture is not that easy. This is because of every single picture you do need to have some point in it, not only a blind shooting what a normal action. By the way, a feeling I a necessary thing while shooting as well. For my first picture, I have chosen f/8 for my aperture based on the lighting because I usually take picture in the evening. The reason I took it in the evening based on I don’t want too much expose and the feeling of hunted is not coming out. And about the shutter speed 1/30 because I need the sunlight, yet it is not too much and not too little. I want to bring up it is bright but not too bright; it is dim yet not too dim. So that the scar at the back of my model is coming out clearly. And ISO was set at 100 based on it is under a roof and half expose to sunlight. I not mean like I have to do it that way. Just that if too high, the green spot or the noise is coming out, even though I focus it, the noise will cover over it and looks blur; goes to the same way, if it is too low. The subject, the model looks so fake and there is no any haunted feeling in it and photo will look over expose. Moreover, in this first picture by all of the combination, it is trying to mean he is disappointed in life and going to suicide then.

For the second picture, I have chosen f/5.6 for the aperture for this picture. This is because I want to create a shallow depth of field which I want the focus point be clear and the fingers became kind of blur yet still can be see clearly for bring out the movement. I do also chosen shutter speed for 1/125 for letting the enough lighting came in the camera on the sensor. I have opened the window and the light for enough lighting yet by doing all of this I have also increase my ISO to 3200 for fully copping with the shutter speed and aperture. I was doing so all is for creating the green spot or noise. For this picture I have actually taken with 2 different ISO which is only 400. I found that for the ISO 3200, the green spot is basically can confuse human eyes. It is like a visual nature cheating machine for creating the sense of the hand is moving toward the people who looking at the picture. Therefore, on this picture, the noises which I hate them the most before do also work in some specific photo. So basically, this photo carries 2 meaning which is moving to hold the rope and moving toward you when in the midnight.

On the third photo, I have used the aperture with f/5.6 which is only like a simple shallow depth of field for the background. This is because the background, the wall could simply highlight the leg. The second, I choose the same shutter speed with the second picture which is 1/125 and the very high ISO which is Hi 2. The main point is the same which creating the green spots, the noises and the unclear outline for the leg. The point of doing so was creating the visual nature cheating machine for it is looks like walking or on the way to suicide.

The forth picture, the picture is mean with the person was already suicide. I set aperture at f/5.6 and I increase the ISO to Hi 2 and use kind on medium high of shutter speed which is 1/125. The reason I use them because of the sun light I getting dark.so I use aperture with f/5.6 for letting enough lighting to enter the camera. Very high ISO is basically for comment knowledge because it is dark so that can see what I was shooting. For the shutter speed is in the medium high because of I have already set the ISO higher. So basically here, I am still not a professional so I just tired which the most suitable is for the theme haunted and can even brought out the feeling. And also, I have used the aperture at f/5.6 is because of I was creating the distance with the wall so that the leg is not going to look like sticking with the wall; like actually my model is actually hanging.

For the last picture is a tight view. Based on I have large, medium and tight view photos. The aperture was at f/5.6 because for my personal observation, I found that f/5.6 is a very accurate and preface aperture for blur the background object. It is not very blurring just like a little yet perfect! For the shutter speed, it is on 1/60 because I am not using tripod because my model is just too tall and I chose this is because I don’t want to have too bright or too dim; in the medium I may get the feel and perfect lighting for bringing up haunted feel! And so, the blood (water colour) may look real! Next, the ISO was set at 3200 because can see that human neck is always covered by our huge head. Therefore, setting the ISO at the outdoor, I could make the opposite sense with normal what we though by this so, everything looks perfect and real.

So basically, I feel like I have done a good job. Yet, obviously I could take mine and compare with other of my friends because everyone has different style. Therefore, congratulation I think I done a perfect job which much more out of my normal standard.

As a conclusion, yes I admitted that I’m yet not a professional but I really do want to thanks to my lecture which put so much effort patient on helping me. The biggest compliment I get is when my work is satisfaction from my lecturer and friends when I show them my pictures yet it is not only by them, the most is on me because I remember Mr. Vinod told me that I have to select and decide by myself; not relay on people.
